What I'm confused about is how the movie downloads will be decent quality and not take FOREVER to download. If the quality is great, the download time is going to be ridiculous. If the quality is bad, no one would even consider buying it.
I would rather buy a 15 dollar DVD, rip it into my iPod and still have a DVD that looks good on my TV. That's just IMO.

I'd love to have a trackpad but I do really like the Magic Mouse. It's not super ergonomic, of course, but I like it more than most other traditional mice.
I know a lot of people that like them. That's cool. But it's not ergonomic at all. Not even a little. The only Apple mouse I ever liked (loved actually) was the ADB II. In my opinion, it's the last and only good mouse Apple ever made.

According to the Page 2 Rumors there are some significant speed ups to OpenGL in the next update to 10.4 due to multithreading. Apple has had 4 processor systems for over a year now. I would think they have some ideas about how to make use of it.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but it appears that the improvement was significantly overstated. Macrumors has now updated that thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=232126).

Have you ever actually watched Netflix or Hulu on a iPhone or iPad over 3G? It totally sucks - not even close to what it looks like when stored locally, especially on the iPad.
Tony
my point is that they stream from a location and aren't stored locally....
they stream fine for me.

Maybe Apple wants to be ahead of the rumors. :)

Not really necessary, yet. Forums here will inform most of us when something really nasty gets out there if ever, listen to the users not a campain.

As for where iTunes puts it's content... the original poster had a good point - how to have the content synched between the external/networked storage device and the local machine, for example a laptop
Oh God yes this is what I want.
I've read where iTunes 7 supports multiple libraries, but it's not the solution we're waiting for.
I want to rip a CD onto my powerbook and have iTunes sync it with a master library on a partition of my external drive next time I hook it up. Right now, I'd have to remember to copy the new files onto the external... no goodI want it to be automatic and just work (Apple has spoiled me).

While on the topic of the iPhone, I am curious about video playback. It may be a lot to ask, but the Chocolate has it and Apple is competing with that and other media phones.

Shard,
Didn't you hear! The new Apple phone is powered by the newly designed low-power embedded G5 chip.
G5 power phones next Tuesday! Woo Hoo!:D :D :D
And only 6 inches thick  :p :D

FWIW $50M/year is ~0.2% of Disney's revenue (they made ~$30B/year for the past few years). Definitely not chicken feed, but not earth shattering either.
B
That's revenue not profit, their profit was $5 billion in 2005 so $50M is about 1% of that, remember that the money from iTunes is practically all profit as their are no real costs for Disney (other than giving Apple a few video files which probably costs $100 000 a year maximum.)

By that argument, aren't windows and office generic terms???
I don't think Microsoft sues or claims to send cease and desist letters to people who make actual windows. I think they know the difference between software and a actual window.

I really hope Intel delays USB 3. I have a mid 2007 MBP, even though I use FW800, I have resorted to using my ExpressCard slot with an eSata adapter which is even faster than FW800. If anything, the difference will be made with the companies who make the external HDD to implement thunderbolt technology into their products. I just hate usb in general, I only use it for flash drives and my mouse.
Agreed. Concurrent support will favour USB3 due to familiarity. Device vendors will be the key here.

The store is noisy, so it is hard to say. To me neither was making a sound.
My 24" is dead quiet. I haven't heard the fans spin up once. That's including multi-hour gaming sessions and Video encoding.

Question: Will gapless iPod playback be 5/5.1G feature only? My 4G is sitting here feeling left out.
well i'm only hoping that some sort of firmwares might do the right job
hopefully somebody might come up with one i guess
but the thing is i don't really care about gapless ****...
i don't like pink floyd, i don't like classical music, and generally, i don't need to listen to a 'flowy' album all the time, do i??
i'm just well content with my 5gen *sob

Kind of a huge gap, don'cha think? For an extra $100 I can nearly TRIPLE the capacity? Why would I even consider a 30 GB model?
A lot of people just don't need the bigger capacity. And it's still thinner, right??
I would buy a 30GB if I was in the market (which I'm not) for a new iPod. I just really don't need more than 30GB.
This is a stupid update. Not anything important.
I was a little bit sad that my iPod would probably be out-dated by today. But yeah right, it's not. But of course everyone already knew that it's still 5G.... Where's our iPhone, Steve?

Breaking a glass window means you can shoot someone in the head? Wow... He may be a criminal but that doesn't mean the security guard should've shot him.

If you walked into the Apple Store today and bought a 2GHz MacBook, it'd be the most current.
Until tomorrow.
Well, allegedly. ... More like in my dreams.

What about the patent designs that were just shown of the Cube 2?
http://www.unwiredview.com/2006/09/07/apple-cube-ii-computer/
It's the same patent as the original cube.
