Receipt numbers are worthless in my case. My application is pending in the local service center and i see the status message from Aug 2004. After that I was scheduled an interview, I did FP, I attended an interview, got stuck in the stupid name check, took 2-3 INFOPASS appointments.
So what's up with the case status online ?

Never saw how fire looks like....these sparks now and then sputter out of a fireplace of mounting frustation. Most sparks loose momentum because cold blowers are too many here.

I just got me H1B approval Notice and copy of I-129 petition. There is nothing wrong with approval but I notice few things and have few concerns/questions to the group if some one had similar experience in the past:
1. Passport number was not correctly typed in form I-129 (however copies passport were sent along with the forms by immigration dept)
2. My Alien number does not show up in 797A approval notice as I have pending 485.
3. The I-94# on passport card does not match with the one on new approval notice.
Now My questions is :
Do I need to get this passport#(1) typo fixed now or its ok?
Is it ok not have A# updated in H1B Approval Notice? My wife's H4 have her A#.
Do I need to get my I-94# matched with the one I had in my previous notice and A/D card stapled in passport?
All this happened due to mistakes commited by our Immigration/attorney.Now she is not ready to listen and asks me to call customer service as she thinks its not her problem.
Any suggestions/experience are apreciated.

Once retrogression starts, I-485 processing is held for all cases with priority date after the cut-off date.
Even if your priority is current, I-485 will not be processed until you clear FBI name check and other security checks (and also I-140 in case of concurrent processing).
If you believe you cleared name check process from FBI, and only processing of I-140 is holding your I-485, then switching to I-140 premium processing makes sense.
You could try premium I-140 process and hope for name check to be cleared in time so that your I-485 is processed before retrogression kicks in.

Like it or not, AR11 is mandatory and it could even lead to deportation for violating the AR11 requirements. A fear of a RFE should not be the factor to stop filing AR11. File it and be safe.
485 RFEs are not very complicated from what I have seen unless you have something wrong with your filing, you have nothing to be afraid of.

I believe change of status pending works the same way as extension applications when pending - one can continue to stay in the country post I-94 expiration as long as the change of status application has been filed prior to I-94 expiration - so the time spent after I-94 expiration does not count as out of status. Now if the change of status application is denied and the decision comes after I-94 has expired - I believe you have 30 days to leave the country - USCIS would send a notice stating the same as well and in that case one should leave the country as early as possible - within 30 days of such intimation.
I would still advise you to get an opinion from an immigration attorney to be sure that this is the way it works.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I need to get Company B to recapture the PD of my earlier I140. This seems to be the best option. But I wonder if I go down this route, will it complicate and delay (significantly if I miss the window) the GC.
If you filed your I-485 in July, 2007 with the knowledge and consent of Company A, you are in order as GC is for future employment. It would appear you did so since they did not withdraw the I-140.
Having said, the only proper course of action is for you to go back to work for Company A after you obtain your GC.
If you would like to work for Company B after GC, you would have to file a change of employer right now (using AC21 provisions). Alternatively you may interfile the approved I-140 from employer B with your current application. You are entitled to keep the priority date on the I-140 of employer A so you should not be affected negatively.
If your lawyer is saying you could continue to work for employer B after GC without doing anything at this time, I would suggest you talk to another immigration attorney to hear a second opinion.

My wife entered US on H4 Visa. Her H4 is valid until Oct 2009. Last year, she got her EAD and started working on EAD. If she has to travel out of the country and come back, can she do it on H4 until 2009 or will she need an AP now that she has used her EAD..

Generally speaking, it is always better to re-enter on nonimmigrant visa than on AP. This is because when one re-enters on non-immigrant visa, one receives a non-immigrant status, which is great. H4 is not dependent on EAD or vice versa. Remember, to loose H4 visa status you need to brake immigration law or do something that violates the immigration law. Technically speaking, if one works on EAD, one does not brake any law due to the EAD being valid. So yes, she can re-enter on h4, receiving H-4 status, and still work as long as EAD is valid. This is a gray area, but as per my attorney it is allowable due to the vague nature of the INA (Immigration and Naturalization Act), which states, that one looses non-immigrant status when one "works without authorization." The other thing I don't understand is how come EB-1 and EB-2 which are current (for ROW) atleast can suddenly become U.
Did USCIS stop paying attention to EB-2 vs EB-3 classification?
How about country limits? Did USCIS give India more than 3K visas?
Also, aren't the visas released quarterly? So, how come the visas that were to be released in July, got consumed in June?

You can buy a ticket, which has a hard return date after six months. After they come here, you can again reschedule earlier or later. I know cathay pacific allows to reschedule any number of times for free...
